Summer Restaurants in Åre

Eating a packed lunch on the mountain is the most luxurious restaurant to be found. But sometimes we wish for something more comfortable. And it is nice to have someone else prepare your food, right? During the summer, you can find delicious options when it comes to food and drinks in and around Åre. Below are the restaurants that are open this summer in Åre, outside the village and some real gems close by.

In Åre village, Björnen, Duved & Tegefjäll

Buustamons fjällgård is located on the way to Ullådalen, and you can also reach it via Trail 210.

Carins krog in the center of Björnen has something for everyone and it’s a perfect family restaurant.

Copperhill’s restaurant is located on the top of Förberget in Björnen, sporting a stunning view of the valley.

Crowded House Café is open during the summer and worth a visit. It’s located at the top of Björnenbacken/Vargenliften.

Fjällgården is an ancient hotel and restaurant located next to the Fjällgårdsexpressen chairlift (by the valley station) and the Funicular Mountain Station. You can also walk up via Trollstigen. 

Food Court Åre is a new place to sit down and eat. Find it next to VM6:an’s Valley Station and enjoy waffles or sausages, or both.

Lillåstugan is the little hut found on the trail around Ullådalen. Walk the shorter but possible wetter trail to the left of the Ullådalen parking lot or follow the longer trail around. The waffle hut is open as soon as the ground has dried up after the winter season.

Årehyddan is located in the middle of Stjärnbacken. Walk 60 meters from the Funicular middle station or take VM6:an all the way to the top and walk/ride down to ”Hyddan”.


Outside Åre by

Backrestaurang Ripan Trillevallen is located at the vallestation in Trillevallen south of Åre. Take the E14 towards Östersund, make a right turn in Undersåker, cross the railway track and follow the signs.

Bergstugan i Fröå is a great goal for your outing. Go via the Åre XC Arena or via Fröåvägen to get to this gem.

Köjagården is beautifully situated in Edsåsdalen south of Åre. Follow the E14 towards Östersund and make a right turn to Undersåker. Cross the railway track and turn right after crossing the stream.

Millestgården Eco Lodge in Duvedsbyn offers tasty lunches for hungry hikers and visitors to the Carolean Monument. Get there via Karolinervägen or the E14.

Vita Renen is situated on the southern slopes of Renfjället. You need to walk, run or bicycle to get there but it’s worth it. Go to Edsåsdalen (see description of how to get to Köjagården above) and make sure to check the opening hours before heading off. 

Vålådalens fjällstation is located inside the Vålådalen nature reserve. Follow the E14 towards Östersund and cross the railway track. Follow the signs towards Vålådalen.

In Åre Village

Broken is a classic Åre restaurant that offers ribs, hamburgers, salads and more: food that will keep you for the rest of the day.

Grädda: Pure and Mediterranean inspired food and locally produced Gelato. Take Årevägen westwards and you’ll see it on the right hand side of the road.

At Holiday Club there’s both the hotel restaurant Grow on the first floor, and sportsbar O’Learys on the second. Ergo, there’s plenty to choose from.

Local hang-out Lounge is located on the first floor of the Station House (Stationshuset). Good and healthy alternatives with a variety of choices. 

Max Hamburger Restaurant – the children’s favorite. This fast food chain has plenty of vegetarian alternatives as well. Find it at Åre torg.

Mister French is another of the many restaurants located around Åre torg, and they might have the best view from their balcony. Enjoy the atmosphere.

Werséns brasseri & bar – super tasty pizza, well prepared home cooking and international flavors: Werséns has become an institution in Åre. It’s located at Åre torg.

Åre Crêperie is located along Årevägen in the old fire station. The offering of galettes is plentiful and there’s a flavor for everyone. And the French crêpes is just the icing on the cake (or galette – why not try them both).

Åre kafferosteri  is not just about great and award winning coffee. Their sourdough breads are tasty and there are different alternatives according to season.

Åre ölkafé is big on high quality home cooking in a great environment in the old train station. The Swedish meatballs might be the best in the country.
