Enjoy trail running with a view in \u00c5re. Here are five favourite trails that\u2019ll give you beautiful mountain terrain and fantastic views to enjoy between every breath. Raise your gaze and save these views to your memory vault or take a picture and send it to someone at home. <\/strong>

Please note:<\/strong> The trails are laid with boardwalks on wetlands and other mounds that have a tendency to be wet. These are convenient for runners but also protect the ground from wear and tear. Stick to the boardwalks as best as you can and avoid running on wet trails (for example, after a rainfall). It\u2019s also common to see reindeer on and around the trails. Please keep your distance, avoid disturbance and, if possible, choose a different route. Thank you! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Totthummeln around and up<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

ELEVATION GAIN<\/strong> 420 m | DISTANCE 5,8 km<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The locals\u2019 favourite route, complete with stunning views at the top. If you\u2019re used to running hills and mountains, you might finish this route before breakfast, but many of us alternate running with brisk hiking on the steepest sections. No matter how quickly you reach the top, the same beautiful views await you. The trail is steepest as it winds through leafy mountain birch terrain, before flattening out slightly as you approach the summit. After taking in the view, your reward awaits \u2013 a fun downhill run along Solstigen, leading you back into the village of \u00c5re! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

GETTING THERE<\/strong> Trail 213<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Plat\u00e5leden<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

DISTANCE<\/strong> 6,3 km<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is a relatively easy trail for those who want a bit of everything on their run. It begins on a footpath before ascending towards Plat\u00e5k\u00e5tan. Continue for a few kilometres through the mountain birch forest until the entire Ottsj\u00f6 plateau opens up in front of you. Wooden planks guide you across the marsh \u2013 just keep your balance and stay focused. After the marsh, make a detour towards Kl\u00e4pph\u00f6garna for stunning views of Lake Ottsj\u00f6n and Ottfj\u00e4llet. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. V\u00e4lliste<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

ELEVATION GAIN <\/strong>515 m | DISTANCE<\/strong> 3,5 km<\/p>\n\n\n\n

V\u00e4lliste is the name of the mountain in Trillevallen, offering a short but rewarding challenge that can easily be extended by running additional trails in the area. The trail starts with an uphill stretch along the gravel road that follows the ski lift, but soon turns into a winding path. Before long, you\u2019ll find yourself at the summit, taking in views of Sylarna to the west and the Anaris massif to the south. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. Middagsvalen<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

ELEVATION<\/strong> 332 m | DISTANCE<\/strong> 5,3 km<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The trail to Middagsvalen is short but eventful. You\u2019ll have time to warm up during the first kilometre from the trail centre in Vallbo, before the climb begins and soon turns very steep. Take in the view at the top \u2014 you\u2019ve certainly earned it. You can either follow the same trail back or run the circular route, which is also marked but tends to be a bit wetter. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

GETTING THERE <\/strong>Trail 286<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vertical K<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ELEVATION GAIN<\/strong> 1000 m | DISTANCE<\/strong> 5,6 km<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you\u2019re looking for the maximum elevation gain in the shortest possible distance, Vertical K is the route for you. Start at the Central Square, where you\u2019ll find a timing station to record your performance. If you\u2019re more in it for the experience, be sure to stop now and then and look over your shoulder \u2013 \u00c5re valley soon reveals one of its finest trail running views! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

GETTING THERE<\/strong> Trail Vertikal K<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

5. Lill\u00e5dammen<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

ELEVATION GAIN<\/strong> 78 m | DISTANCE<\/strong> 7 km<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The trail to Lill\u00e5dammen starts at Fr\u00f6\u00e5 Gruva<\/a> (an old copper mine), with a lovely wide path that\u2019s perfect for warming up. The trail climbs gently, and just above the tree line you\u2019re rewarded with a stunning view of the back of Mt \u00c5reskutan. On the way back, you can take a detour towards Byxtj\u00e4rn for an alternative route home, offering an equally enjoyable downhill run. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

7. Lillskutan<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

ELEVATION GAIN<\/strong> 560 m | DISTANCE<\/strong> 11 km<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This scenic loop around Lillskutan offers a varied mix of mountain terrain, from beautiful spruce forests to open alpine landscapes. You'll often pass patches of lingering snow that melt slowly throughout the summer, while mountain streams cross the trail in several places, making sections wet depending on recent weather. Take the VM6 chairlift and Hummel Lift to the trailhead and save your legs some climbing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

8. The western trail (V\u00e4stra leden) to the summit of \u00c5reskutan<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

ELEVATION GAIN <\/strong> 1000 m | DISTANCE<\/strong> 7,6 km<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here\u2019s a challenge where you run all the way up to the summit of \u00c5reskutan, with a mix of wider trails and several technical sections. From M\u00f6rvikshummeln up to the top of \u00c5reskutan, you\u2019ll be running through open mountain terrain, having left the mountain birch forest behind. This section follows the same route as the Vertical K trail, offering fantastic views all around. Treat yourself by taking the cable car <\/a>down and enjoy a bird\u2019s-eye view of the entire route you\u2019ve just conquered. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
