Waffle indulgence! Waffles rarely taste better than on a cold winter\u2019s day in the mountains. We have listed some popular places for you to seek out where you can enjoy some super tasty waffles. Chose between just sitting down and getting served or baking your own waffles as part of the experience! <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Waffles by the slopes<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

At the peak of \u00c5reskutan, 1,420 meters above sea level, sits Toppstugan<\/a> \u2013 Sweden\u2019s highest located caf\u00e9 since its opening in 1892. Here, waffles are served for those who\u2019ve taken a snowmobile up from the cable car\u2019s mountain station, or hiked the final stretch with their skis slung over their shoulders. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Take a waffle break from skiing in Bj\u00f6rnen, you will find delicious ones at Lilla Tyrolen<\/a>, adjacent to the slope J\u00e4rvsv\u00e4ngen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you\u2019re in the more central parts of the \u00c5re ski area you will find waffles with both sweet and more savory toppings at V\u00e5ffelk\u00e5tan<\/a> next to Igloo \u00c5re<\/a> close to the upper station of VM8an ski lift. Take the chance to have a look inside one of the Igloos while you are visiting, perhaps you would like to stay over night? Ask the staff for a guided tour! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The skier friendly \u201cwaffle on a stick\u201d at Kaffebaren<\/a> next to VM8:an\u2019s valley station is another sweet treat between the runs. <\/p>\n\n\n

Waffles by the XC ski trails<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Tucked between Ull\u00e5dalen and Tegefj\u00e4ll,<\/strong> Lill\u00e5stugan Waffle Cabin<\/a> is well worth the journey. Cross-country skiers and backcountry skiers can follow the trails from Ull\u00e5dalen, while alpine skiers can reach it from the Fj\u00e4llvallsliften lift in Tegefj\u00e4ll. However you choose to get there, the reward is as memorable as the journey itself. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Bj\u00f6rnen you\u2019ll find Bergstugan<\/a> at Fr\u00f6\u00e5 Gruva<\/a>. Strap your cross-country skis on and chose the 10 K-track at the \u00c5re XC Arena in Bj\u00f6rnen<\/a>. After about five kilometres you\u2019ll see a sign for Bergstugan \u2013 turn and eat your way through their menu of delicious waffles. You can also go by car up to Fr\u00f6\u00e5 Gruva, driving a few kilometres past the \u00c5re XC arena. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vita Renen<\/a> is the place to go for waffles if you\u2019re heading a bit south from \u00c5re. Vita Renen (The White Reindeer) is located on Renfj\u00e4llet, where you can go by the ski lift in Eds\u00e5sdalen and hook up with a track vehicle that takes you all the way to the top, or via the cross-country tracks from K\u00f6jag\u00e5rden<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the southern edge of the \u00c5re mountains lies V\u00e5l\u00e5dalen, known for its outstanding cross-country ski trails and winter routes. And no visit feels complete without a waffle\u2014or two\u2014at V\u00e5l\u00e5dalens Fj\u00e4llstation<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another tip a bit south from \u00c5re is the popular excursion site Ytterstvallen<\/strong> about 4 kilometres of cross-country skiing from Trillevallen. You can also get there from Ottsj\u00f6. Check out the opening hours for Ytterstvallen through Trillevallens H\u00f6gfj\u00e4llshotell<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Waffles in the summer<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

If you\u2019re hiking in the Ull\u00e5dalen area and the craving sets in, Lill\u00e5stugan<\/a> and Buustamons Fj\u00e4llg\u00e5rd\u2019s<\/a> restaurant is open, which during the day serves deliciously crispy Buusta waffles with sweet or savory toppings in the summer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many of the places above are also open in the summer, for example Bergstugan<\/a> in Fr\u00f6\u00e5, K\u00f6jag\u00e5rden<\/a> and Vita Renen<\/a> in Eds\u00e5sdalen are cozy places for a waffle as a destination for the hiking tour. Just look for updated opening hours, it can vary at different times of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n
