Bringing your dog to \u00c5re is easy! J\u00e4mtland is one of Sweden\u2019s most dog-dense areas per capita and \u00c5re is of course no exception. And it is easy to bring your four-legged friend to \u00c5re even when you are visiting. We\u2019ve put together a Q & A that provides answers to some questions you may have as a dog owner visiting \u00c5re. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Where can I stay with my dog?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Many accommodations in \u00c5re allow dogs in the apartments\/rooms. It\u2019s best to contact the accommodation you\u2019re interested in, in advance. Holiday Club,<\/a> Copperhill Mountain Lodge<\/a>, Hotell Fj\u00e4llg\u00e5rden <\/a>and \u00c5re Fj\u00e4lls\u00e4tra,<\/a> for example, welcomes pets and have a certain number of dog rooms. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Is there a caf\u00e9 or restaurant I can bring my dog to?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

If you are going for a coffee your furry friend is welcome at Gr\u00e4dda<\/a> and \u00c5re Kafferosteri.<\/a> In case you would like to have lunch or dinner you can do this with your dog at Broken<\/a>, Mister French,<\/a> Granen<\/a>, Boqueria<\/a>, Creperiet<\/a>, \u00c5reg\u00e5rden<\/a>, Parkvillan<\/a>, Vinbaren<\/a> and to Lill\u00e5stugan<\/a> in Ull\u00e5dalen. If you prefer something a bit outside central \u00c5re you can for example visit Kretsloppshuset<\/a>, Copperhill Mountain Loge<\/a>, Kallg\u00e5rden<\/a>.

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are several dog-friendly places to choose from. And, if you\u2019re ever unsure, just ask if your dog is welcome inside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Can I bring my dog with me in Kabinbanan (the Cable Car)?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Yes, the cable car allows dogs, both in the summer and winter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What about other lifts?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In the gondola lift there are specific gondolas that you can ride in with a dog. If you\u2019re taking the funicular Bergbanan, it\u2019s important to stand in the designated place. In the chairlifts, it\u2019s important that you have good control of your dog, that you can lift your dog on and off yourself, and that it\u2019s safe for them to ride the lift. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Can I take my dog with me on the Cross-Country track?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Yes, as long as your dog doesn\u2019t run on or through the prepared tracks, but beside them. If for some reason it\u2019s not<\/em> allowed to have your dog on the track, there will be signs. It\u2019s up to you to pick up after your dog wherever it goes, so make sure to always have a bag with you. If you forgot a bag, try to shovel the pile out of the groomed area. It\u2019s not a nice experience tramping through somebody\u2019s dog\u2019s remnants. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Can I bring my dog on the slopes with me?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

No, It is not allowed to have a dog on the ski slopes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Is there a Veterinarian in \u00c5re?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Yes, in Duved is the Veterin\u00e4rkliniken \u00c5redalen,<\/a> in S\u00e5\u00e5 you\u2019ll find \u00c5re Djurklinik<\/a> and Sn\u00f6vit veterin\u00e4rmottagning<\/a> is in J\u00e4rpen. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Where can I buy dog food in \u00c5re?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

All the Veterinary Clinics listed above have dog food and some other treats for the dog. \u00c5redalens hundsport <\/a>in Duved has a large selection of food, treats, toys, leashes, harnesses, and other accessories for dogs. A certain range of food and treats for dogs is also available at the grocery stores in the area. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Can I let my dog go without a leash everywhere?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

No, according to \u00c5re Municipality\u2019s website, leashes generally apply in public places, and in non-public places the dog must be marked with a collar or ID marking so that the owner can be identified. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Remember that your dog must be on a leash in the mountain. Even the smallest and most caring dogs will chase after reindeer, grouse, and other animals. It may be a new situation for your dog and it may react in unexpected ways. General rules for leashing in nature are available on the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency\u2019s website.<\/a> There is, on the other hand, a dog kennel in J\u00e4rpen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Are there ticks in \u00c5re?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

No, not in general, but there are examples of individual ticks that have bitten people. It may be helpful to review your dog\u2019s tick protection. If you\u2019re here during the summer, some dogs may find Black Flies annoying and may experience redness around their bites, but they usually disappear within a day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
