Set on the eastern slopes of \u00c5reskutan, it's a beautiful place to explore, with winding trails, old spoil heaps shimmering with traces of copper and peaceful meadows. Don't miss a stop at Bergstugan for homemade fika with a view.   <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The historic copper mine <a href=\"http:\/\/froagruva.se\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Fr\u00f6\u00e5 Gruva<\/a> is beautifully situated on the eastern side of Mt. \u00c5reskutan. It was commissioned in 1744 and was used until 1919. Today, the mining area has been reconstructed and upgraded into both a beautiful place to visit, and a historic outdoor museum where you can learn about the life and work done here in the past.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 1990, the decision was made to rebuild the mining town and reconstruct its clever water system. A 9.5m diameter water wheel still stands in the original wheel pit from 1859. The wheel drives a 200 meter long railway, which, in turn, holds two pumps running in through the Drottninggruven shaft.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"ctl00_RegionPage_RegionContent_RegionMainContent_ActorDisplay_LabelInfo\">The mine canal, dug out by hand in 1859 to transport water to the water wheel, has been reexcavated and the aqueduct, which leads Fr\u00f6\u00e5ns water to Fr\u00f6\u00e5j\u00e4rn to be stored, has been reopened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Villages and buildings<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A community grew around the mine, and many of the houses still remain today. An easy way to get into the 19th century life in the small village is simply to take a walk along <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aretrails.com\/trail\/atorpsrundan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u00c5torpsrundan (point 225)<\/a>. There are information signs on several of the houses that tell about the buildings and the area\u2019s history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Guided tours and good food<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The mine is usually open during the summer with guided tours. You can also explore the remains of the old canal systems on your own. Maps can be found at reception. Several nice <a href=\"https:\/\/aresweden.com\/are-trails-sommar\/\">hiking trails<\/a> start out from Fr\u00f6\u00e5 Gruva and in the surroundings you find both open air fire places for grilling your own food and the excellent caf\u00e9 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bergstuganfroa.se\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Bergstugan.<\/a>  <\/p>\n\n\n<div
