Go skiing for waffles. This is a must when you visit \u00c5re and the coffee and waffles with whichecver jam your choose to have on the side always tastes better after you\u2019ve had to work for it. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Bergstugan in Fr\u00f6\u00e5<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Bergstugan<\/a> is situated in the old mining village in Fr\u00f6\u00e5<\/a> on the \u201cother side\u201d of Mt. \u00c5reskutan. It\u2019s a typical Swedish red house with white details that provides a homely feeling. Everything is made from local produce and there is a lunch buffet with salads, waffles, sandwiches and coffee, all served daily. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

How to get here: <\/strong>Follow the 10-kilometre trail from Bj\u00f6rnen\u2019s cross-country centre (\u00c5re XC Arena<\/a>) and keep a look out for the Bergstugan sign about halfway. From there, follow the cross-marked trail across the Fr\u00f6\u00e5 road and then up towards the old mining village where Bergstugan is situated. To get back to Bj\u00f6rnen, re-connect with the original 10-kilometre trail and continue on until you come back to Bj\u00f6rnen\u2019s cross-country trail centre. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can also drive there: Continue along the Fr\u00f6\u00e5 road past \u00c5re XC Arena. Drive for a few kilometres and look for a sign pointing you to the left and up to Fr\u00f6\u00e5 Gruva. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Vita Renen<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

On the other side of Lake \u00c5resj\u00f6n there\u2019s a beautiful peak called Renfj\u00e4llet. On its southern face lies the Vita Renen <\/a>restaurant. Best way to get there is to drive to Eds\u00e5sdalen and start from there. You can either tour all the way down from the village or you can hop on the trail at Ravinbanan\u2019s Mountain Station. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

From here it\u2019s an easy uphill climb for about 3 kilometres. Another option is to be towed or take a ride in the snowmobile sleigh all the way up. Vita Renen is open when the ski lifts at the top of the mountain are open so check the opening hours through Eds\u00e5sdalen <\/a>before heading out. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Everything at Vita Renen is home-made and they offer lunch, \u00e0 la carte and coffee. There\u2019s a large veranda overlooking the south of \u00c5refj\u00e4llen and a lovely place to have a break at on a sunny spring day. Why not take a snowmobile here directly from \u00c5re? Either with your own snowmobile and valid track pass from V\u00c4SEK<\/a> or on a guided tour. If you\u2019re taking a snowmobile from Eds\u00e5sdalen, it\u2019s the Eds\u00e5sdalen\u2019s snowmobile track pass<\/a> that applies. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

How to get here: From \u00c5re, drive east on the E14. Turn right at the first exit to Unders\u00e5ker. Keep to your right across the railroad and make a right turn just after the bridge, where the sign points towards Eds\u00e5sdalen. Park close to the K\u00f6ja Fj\u00e4llhotell<\/a> and Eds\u00e5sdalens Sportbod <\/a>(the sports shop). Ravinliften is the lift just above the sports shop.<\/p>\n\n\n

3. Lill\u00e5stugan<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Lill\u00e5stugan<\/a> is located about two kilometres from Ull\u00e5dalen\u2019s parking and a perfect destination to go skiing for fika. It is a family run waffle hut that serves coffee, sandwiches, goulash and other homemade tasty treats based on the family\u2019s recipes. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The track is groomed for classic skiing, but as it is a popular tour, the track is usually a bit trampled. If you want to work a bit harder on your way there, there is also a longer trail<\/a>, about 6 kilometers of back country track which is also groomed for skate skiing. Follow the 5-kilometer trail north after heading past Ull\u00e5n. Keep left after the long uphill towards Mullfj\u00e4llet, then follow the signs to Lill\u00e5stugan down towards \u00c5resj\u00f6n again. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

How to get here: <\/strong>Park your car at the upper parking lot in Ull\u00e5dalen or take the ski bus to R\u00f6dkullen and walk from there (the distance is circa 2 kilometres). Take aim for Mullfj\u00e4llet (the opposite peak from Mt. \u00c5reskutan) and follow the trail across the Ull\u00e5n rapid. Keep to your left and follow the signs towards Lill\u00e5stugan (there\u2019s also a sign close to the parking lot). You can also reach Lill\u00e5stugan while alpine skiing: Make a right turn at the Fj\u00e4llvallsliften valley station in Tegefj\u00e4ll and follow the track down to the hut. On your way back there\u2019s a transport track to Tegeliften in Tegefj\u00e4ll. <\/p>\n\n\n

4. Waffles over open fire at Fr\u00f6\u00e5l\u00e4gret<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Swedish waffles are more or less a must-have in Swedish food culture. And the best way of having them is to fry them over an open fire together with friends and\/or family. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Fr\u00f6\u00e5l\u00e4gret<\/a> (Fr\u00f6\u00e5 Camp) you can do just that with assistance from wilderness guides. This is an experience that needs to be pre booked with activity operator Explore \u00c5re<\/a>. Ski in about 2,5 kilometers from \u00c5re XC Arena or about 800 meters from Fr\u00f6\u00e5 Gruva (Click here for map<\/a>) and make your way to the camp where you will get a seat by an open fire and all the ingredients needed to create a super cosy waffle experience. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
