Leaving \u00c5re village behind and spending a day in Ull\u00e5dalen feels like taking a deep breath and resetting your mind. This vast alpine landscape of rolling, snow-covered terrain and wide-open mountain views has a way of making everyday life feel far away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ski touring is one of the best ways to experience Ull\u00e5dalen. As you move through the landscape, you're rewarded with spectacular views in every direction and a true sense of mountain freedom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Below, we've gathered three of our favourite ski touring routes in beautiful Ull\u00e5dalen. Whether you're new to touring or looking for a more demanding adventure, there's a route to match your experience, fitness level and appetite for adventure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lill\u00e5stugan<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Distance<\/strong>: 1.9 kilometers (one way)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The trail from the parking lot in Ull\u00e5dalen to the traditional Lill\u00e5stugan<\/a> waffle hut is quite an easy and short tour and with a great reward at the end. Waffles have been produced in Lill\u00e5stugan for generations and they also serve a variety of food, pastries and hot drinks. The trail varies a bit from slightly hilly to leveled so make sure you know both how to break and to ski uphill. Skins or other types of skis that don\u2019t require wax is the best choice for children. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

An alternative route: To make the trip to Lill\u00e5stugan longer, you can choose to take the extended<\/em> route Till Lill\u00e5stugan l\u00e5nga turen<\/a>, making this a round tour of about 6 kilometers in total. After you have passed the river Ull\u00e5n, keep to your right and follow the 5 kilometer trail uphill and to the north. After the long uphill section keep to your left towards Mullfj\u00e4llet (the long mountain ridge opposite of \u00c5reskutan) and then follow the signs to Lill\u00e5stugan. <\/p>\n\n\n

How to get there: <\/strong>From the E14 road, turn up towards Ull\u00e5dalen and R\u00f6dkullen. Park at the parking lot in Ull\u00e5dalen and follow the signs towards Lill\u00e5stugan. Aim towards Mullfj\u00e4llet and follow the trail over the stream Ull\u00e5n, keep to your left and follow the signs to Lill\u00e5stugan. Ullsj\u00f6n and Stendalen<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Distance: <\/strong>2 kilometers (one way)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The trail starts from the start of the Ull\u00e5dalen ski lift and can be reached from the parking lots in Ull\u00e5dalen by following the ski slope next to the parking lots, upwards. On your left you will find a marked trail that goes through the forest and heads straight between Mt. Mullfj\u00e4llet and Mt. \u00c5reskutan. The first part is a shared track with oncoming skiers so beware and keep to the side of the track when meeting others. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After following this trail for a while, you can chose to turn right towards Stendalen or straight ahead towards the lake Ullsj\u00f6n. This is a nice place for a pause and something to munch on before you turn and go back in the same tracks. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Extend your route: After a few kilometres, you have the option of turning right and climbing up over part of V\u00e4sterskutan to reach Stendalen before descending back to Ull\u00e5dalen. This alternative route is more demanding and can take some time, so bringing snacks and plenty of water is recommended. <\/p>\n\n\n

Getting there: Follow the E14 west and turn towards Ull\u00e5dalen and R\u00f6dkullen. Continue past R\u00f6dkullen and Buustamon, then park in one of the car parks in Ull\u00e5dalen. Start from the base station of the Ull\u00e5dalen lift or the nearby car park and follow Skutskjutsbacken uphill. \u00c5reskutan Runt<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Distance<\/strong>: 19.2 kilometers<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is a serious A-to-B day trip<\/a> with varying and sometimes challenging conditions. The trail starts at Ull\u00e5dalen and ends in \u00c5re Bj\u00f6rnen on the eastern side of Mt. \u00c5reskutan, so you need to figure out the logistics of getting back home before heading out. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The beginning of the trail is the Ullsj\u00f6n and Stendalen tour<\/em> (see above). After passing Ullsj\u00f6n you continue into the birch forest before reaching higher and out in open mountain terrain, thereby exposing yourself more to the current weather conditions, on the northern side of Mt. \u00c5reskutan. The highest point of the trail is 900 meters above sea level and there\u2019s a beautiful view of the Kall area and Lake Kallsj\u00f6n from the backside of \u00c5reskutan. The trail climbs upwards after about 12-13 kilometres and ends with a long descent to Bj\u00f6rnen, which can be quite a challenge if you are tired. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Note: This tour is tough and you are exposed to the elements so be prepared before heading out as the weather may change during the tour. Make sure to pack a map, compass, extra clothing and enough food and drinks. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
