Host an event in Åre

Åre's reputation as a destination has been shaped by the events held here for more than a century, beginning with alpine competitions in the early 1900s. Today, around 30 major events, along with numerous smaller events and commercial activities, take place in Åre every year. With its spectacular mountain setting and well-developed infrastructure, Åre offers outstanding opportunities for events in every season.
One of the things event organizers value most is the warm welcome they receive. We share our extensive local network and help organizers navigate everything from planning to local contacts. Just like for our visitors, Åre is a small village with a big heart.
Åre Destination and Åre Municipality work closely together to create the best possible conditions for successful events. The municipality's event services team can guide you through the planning process and help you identify the permits and approvals your event may require.
Things to consider when planning an event or commercial activity:
- If you have an event idea or would like to explore whether Åre is the right destination for your concept, our first recommendation is to contact Åre Destination at [email protected]. We can help with everything from landowner coordination and suitable venues to local suppliers and choosing the best time of year for your event.
- Please note that commercial events and activities held on privately owned land are not covered by Sweden's Right of Public Access. Permission from the landowner is always required. Read more about tourism on private land (in Swedish). Before contacting landowners directly or beginning detailed planning, organizers should first get in touch with Åre Destination. We work closely with many of the area's landowners and help coordinate these relationships.
- Most events also require permits and approvals from public authorities. Åre Municipality's event services team can guide you through the permit process and help you determine which approvals are needed. If you have questions, contact [email protected].
Tourism businesses that operate on privately owned land should establish agreements with the relevant landowners to ensure activities are carried out responsibly and sustainably. The type of activity—such as rafting, cycling, or horseback riding—as well as local conditions, visitor pressure, applicable legislation, and community interests all influence the agreements that may be required.
The quotation above is taken from the brochure Tourism on Private Land, which provides further guidance on creating sustainable nature-based experiences.
