Autumn break

Autumn break in Åre is all about spending time together. Days filled with laughter, adventures, and new discoveries—with plenty of time in between to talk, play, and simply enjoy each other’s company. All around you, the mountains shift from brilliant autumn colors to frosty mornings, and perhaps even the first snow of the season. The pace is a little slower than in winter, nature is at its most beautiful, and every autumn break week brings its own kind of mountain magic. Whatever the weather, fresh air, spectacular views, and experiences best shared together are waiting.

A calendar packed with fun

The village gets into the autumn break spirit with a calendar full of experiences for kids and grown-ups alike. One moment the kids are bouncing around at JumpYard or trying their hand at circus skills, the next the whole family is gathered around a campfire with cups of hot chocolate. It’s a chance to put the screens away and fill your days with things that are simply more fun when you do them together. There’s plenty to keep you busy for a long autumn break—or just enough for a cozy long weekend.

Picture an autumn break day like this:

This is where today’s adventure begin

Start the day with a long hotel breakfast before lacing up your shoes and heading out into the crisp mountain air. Maybe the mountains are still glowing with brilliant autumn colors, or perhaps the season’s first snow has dusted the peaks white overnight. Spend the morning at the Wilderness Camp, where the kids can meet Valle, try circus skills, carve their first butter knife, or learn how to start a fire with a fire steel while the campfire crackles and hot chocolate warms their hands.

And there’s plenty more to come

When it’s time to burn off some energy, even more adventures await. Bounce at JumpYard, try indoor climbing in Duved, or head out on a hike to a thundering waterfall. If the weather turns chilly, the Holiday Club Adventure Pool is the perfect escape, with exciting water slides, hot tubs, and a heated outdoor pool where steam rises into the cool autumn air. Or swap the action for something creative and try candle dipping at Åre Ljusfabrik—a cozy tradition for all ages, with the scent of candle wax and a little taste of Advent to come.

One of the best things about spending Autumn Break in Åre is that everything is close by. Activities, cafés, restaurants, and nature are all within easy reach, meaning less time in the car and more time together.

The evening is part of the adventure too

As the afternoon rolls around, take a stroll through Åre’s shops, sample locally made food and treats, or settle into a café with freshly baked pastries and something warm to drink. Maybe the day ends with a warm sauna, a game of cards, a book by the fire, or simply talking about everything you’ve done. Autumn break – activity tips

Autumn break falls right between the brilliant colors of autumn and the sparkling white of winter—a time when the mountains bring crisp air, crackling campfires, and adventures for the whole family. As long as the weather allows, the trails at Åre Trail Park in Björnen stay open for trail biking.
When it’s time to warm up, head indoors for water slides and hot tubs at Holiday Club, high-flying fun at JumpYard, climbing at Åre Klätterhall, or padel, tennis, and pickleball at Åre Sportcenter. At Åre Ljusfabrik, the whole family can also try candle dipping—a cozy autumn break activity where you’ll get to take four handmade candles home with you. Here are our best tips for an autumn break packed with things to do—whatever the weather.

What’s the weather like in Åre during autumn break?

The short answer: anything can happen—and that’s part of the charm. Autumn break stretches across several weeks, and during that time the landscape can shift from brilliant autumn colors to a taste of winter. One day might bring sunshine, crisp mountain air, and golden hillsides, while the next brings rain or the first snowfall of the season. Toward the end of the autumn break period, there may even be a chance to go cross-country skiing or ice skating if temperatures have dropped enough.

The best advice? Pack for changing weather and let the conditions shape the day’s adventure. A little rain doesn’t have to get in the way—quite the opposite. Misty mountains, rushing streams, and forests filled with the scent of autumn after the rain have a magic all their own. And when it’s time to warm up, cozy cafés, a hot sauna, indoor activities, and crackling fires are waiting.

Whatever the weather, there’s always something wonderful to do in Åre.
