Åre's Tastiest Waffles

Waffle indulgence! Waffles rarely taste better than on a cold winter’s day in the mountains. We have listed some popular places for you to seek out where you can enjoy some super tasty waffles. Chose between just sitting down and getting served or baking your own waffles as part of the experience!

Waffles in the slopes…

Take a waffle break from skiing in Björnen, you will find delicious ones at Lilla Tyrolen, adjacent to the slope Järvsvängen.

If you’re in the more central parts of the Åre ski area you will find waffles with both sweet and more savory toppings at Våffelkåtan next to Igloo Åre close to the upper station of VM8an ski lift. Take the chance to have a look inside one of the Igloos while you are visiting, perhaps you would like to stay over night? Ask the staff for a guided tour!

The skier friendly “waffle on a stick” at Kaffebaren next to VM8:an’s valley station is another sweet treat between the runs.

…waffles by the XC ski trails…

In Björnen you’ll find Bergstugan at Fröå Gruva. Strap your cross-country skis on and chose the 10 K-track at the Åre XC Arena in Björnen. After about five kilometres you’ll see a sign for Bergstugan – turn and eat your way through their menu of delicious waffles. You can also go by car up to Fröå Gruva, driving a few kilometres past the Åre XC arena.

Lillåstugans våffelbruk is located between Ullådalen and Tegefjäll and you can get there via the Ullådalen XC-trails, using Ski Touring skis or cross-country equipment, or from Fjällvallsliften in Tegefjäll if you are alpine skiing. It doesn’t matter how you get there – it’s well worth the effort!

Vita Renen is the place to go for waffles if you’re heading a bit south from Åre. Vita Renen (The White Reindeer) is located on Renfjället, where you can go by the ski lift in Edsåsdalen and hook up with a track vehicle that takes you all the way to the top, or via the cross-country tracks from Köjagården.

Another tip a bit south from Åre is the popular excursion site Ytterstvallen about 4 kilometres of cross-country skiing from Trillevallen. You can also get there from Ottsjö. Check out the opening hours for Ytterstvallen through Trillevallens Högfjällshotell.

… and waffles in the summer!

In the summer heat, it’s especially good to replace the cream on the waffle with cooling ice cream that melts in your mouth. At Åre Strand Glass & Våffla, you can enjoy your waffle right on the beach, when you crave it the most!

If you’re hiking in the Ullådalen area and the craving sets in, Buustamons Fjällgård’s restaurant is open, which during the day serves deliciously crispy Buusta waffles with sweet or savory toppings in the summer.

Many of the places above are also open in the summer, for example Bergstugan in Fröå, Köjagården and Vita Renen in Edsåsdalen are cozy places for a waffle as a destination for the hiking tour. Just look for updated opening hours, it can vary at different times of the year.
