Take the whole family out for a run, stopping along the way at babbling streams, scenic viewpoints and other exciting spots. There’s no need to rush when running with children – the most important thing is to have fun!
As always with activities involving kids, it’s a good idea to have a tasty, energy-boosting snack in your pocket for when their legs start to tire. Here, we suggest a few easier trails that are also perfect if you’re not yet an experienced mountain runner.

Please note: The trails are laid with boardwalks on wetlands and other mounds that have a tendency to be wet. These are convenient for runners but also protect the ground from wear and tear. Stick to the boardwalks as best as you can and avoid running on wet trails (for example, after a rainfall). It’s also common to see reindeer on and around the trails. Please keep your distance, avoid disturbance and, if possible, choose a different route. Thank you!

Trails to Lillådammen and Byxtjärn
DISTANCE 7 km
Trail 221 takes you towards Lillådammen and Byxtjärn and is ideal for running with children or if you’re new to trail running. The trail starts at Fröå Gruva and, after a few kilometres, it splits towards the two different tarns. Byxtjärn is a little closer, while Lillådammen offers a slightly narrower path and is a bit further away. To save energy, we recommend walking on the uphill sections and running where possible. The return journey is mostly downhill. You follow the same route back to the starting point (the distance given is for the full return route). The perfect reward after your run is the lunch served at Bergstugan in Fröå!

Solstigen
ELEVATION 160 m | DISTANCE 3,9 km
Solstigen is one of the locals’ favourite trails and has been in use for over a century which means it’s well-trodden. Begin your run at the funicular (Bergbanan) mountain station by Fjällgården and continue through the forests on the slope of Totthummeln. Circa halfway through, the trail turns and takes you down to Åre Square via a nice village road.

Åtorpsrundan
ELEVATION 90 m | DISTANCE 4,2 km
Fröå Gruva, with its open-air museum built around the old copper mine, offers plenty of options when it comes to trails for both running and hiking, especially for beginners and younger runners. The Åtorpsrundan trail runs through the forest from Fröå Gruva and loops back again. We recommend stopping at the shed, where you’ll find a barbecue area with plenty of wood available for anyone to use – the perfect spot to refuel with your food of choice. Be sure to take some time to explore the open-air museum as well!
