10:00–22.00.
That’s how long the lifts spin on Åreskutan on Midsummer Day, The Longest Day of the Year* —giving you plenty of time to enjoy the mountain. Twelve hours to ride, hike, or simply float to the top and let the views do the rest in the soft, golden light of Midsummer. The longest day of the year deserves to be celebrated.
The Cable Car and Stjärnliften stay open until 21:00 for biking. Opportunities like this only come once a year, so make the most of one of summer’s longest and brightest evenings in the mountains. VM8 lift closes at 16:00.
World Cup Football on Åreskutan
In the evening, Base Camp becomes one of Sweden’s highest-altitude football viewing venues as Sweden’s World Cup match is shown on a giant screen. To make it easier for spectators to attend, the Gondola will continue operating until 22:00.
- Seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Before boarding the Cable Car, you’ll be informed whether space is available indoors.
- If the venue is full, you’re still welcome to ride up and enjoy the atmosphere outside. You’ll be able to hear the match, even if you can’t see the screen.
- Base Camp will be open throughout the evening, serving kebabs, falafel, hot dogs, and beer.
- Please note that bicycles are not permitted in the Cable Car after 21:00.
Kickoff: 19:00
Broadcast begins: 18:30
FREE RIDES ALL DAY WITH THE CABLE CAR
This year’s celebration is extra special as Kabinbanan marks its 50th anniversary. Since the mid-1970s, the iconic cable car has carried visitors high above Åreskutan, with sweeping mountain views all around. Want to linger a little longer? You can always hike your way down after closing. The light hangs on for another hour or two, and the sun doesn’t set until around 23:30. Everything is set for a long, luminous, and unforgettable day (and evening!) on the mountain.
* The longest day of the year, the summer solstice, officially falls on June 21. In Åre, however, we’re celebrating it a day early on June 20.
