Åre's development as a visitor destination has long been shaped by its events, beginning with alpine competitions in the early 1900s. Every event creates a new reason to visit, introduces Åre to new audiences, and strengthens the destination throughout the year. Today, Åre hosts around 30 major events annually, making it one of Scandinavia's leading event destinations.

Åre Destination is often one of the first points of contact for organizers considering Åre as their venue. Our role is to help turn ideas into reality by making organizers feel welcome and supporting them throughout the planning process. One of the things organizers value most is access to our strong local network and practical support with everything from landowner agreements to local suppliers.

Just like for our visitors, Åre is a small village with a big heart for event organizers. Our goal is to ensure that our member businesses benefit from the investments made through events—both through increased visibility and the long-term value they create for the Åre brand.

Events organized by Åre Destination

Åre Autumn Market

Åre Destination also produces several events of its own. Åre Autumn Market is the largest, attracting 25,000–30,000 visitors during the last weekend of September. Each year, the program evolves with new ideas designed to attract first-time visitors while giving returning guests something new to experience.

Autumn break

The theme of Autumn Break in Åre is Time Together. The focus is on creating accessible experiences for the whole family. Under one shared program, Åre Destination brings together and promotes 70–80 activities organized by local businesses with families in mind. Many visitors during this week are vacation homeowners extending their stay in Åre during a new part of the season, while others are discovering the destination for the very first time.

Christmas at Åre Square

Each Christmas, Åre Destination transforms Åre Square into a festive gathering place with three days of seasonal activities. Visitors can dance around the Christmas tree, meet Santa to deliver wish lists, enjoy mulled wine, and soak up the holiday atmosphere. Åre Destination also co-organizes the annual Walpurgis celebrations in Duved and Åre.
