Lunch Places & Mountain Restaurants

At mountain resorts we are often active from early morning to late evening so it is important to keep the energy level up to get through the day. There’s a great selection of lunch places and mountain restaurants in Åre and we dare claim that there’s something for every taste bud. Keep on reading to find some really nice places where you can enjoy your lunch, in Åre, on the slopes and at some gems located outside of Åre town.

Please note that you need to make a reservation at some of the restaurants due to covid-19 restrictions.


In Åre by, Björnen, Duved & Tegefjäll


720 bar och restaurang (bar and restaurant) is located at the top of Bräckeliften above the SkiStar Snow Park. On the menu you will find hamburgers, pasta, nacho plates, Swedish meatballs and more. 

Buustamons fjällgårdSki in via Rödkullen or go by car and then tracked vehicle (booking required). Buustamon has a great tradition and has hosted guests for generations. Great atmosphere and amazing food.

Copperhill is located at the top in Björnen and offers a great view of Åredalen. Just turn right in Björnen center and follow the winding road all the way to the top.

Hotell FjällgårdenFjällgården is one of the oldest hotels and restaurants in Åre, located at the Fjällgårdsexpress valley station. Ski in, enjoy an assortment of great dishes such as bolognese or gulasch, and ski out.

Lillåstugan Ullådalen. Waffles in the Swedish way – this is a distinguished institution that’s been serving waffles for generations. Ski downhill via Tegefjäll or cross-country via Ullådalen’s parking.

Platåkåtan in Tottbacken. Platåkåtan serves large portions of the typical skiers’ lunch, but with a Swedish touch.  You will not leave hungry. Ski in/Ski Out via Tottbacken.

Tegetornet in Tegefjäll. Tegetornet is a perfect family lunch restaurant. Ski in from the funicular’s valley station in Tegefjäll and enjoy pizza or  Á la Carte.

Våffelkåtan is located at VM-platån (the World Cup Plateau) and have great waffles with loads of topping on offer, among other things.


BaseCamp Åreskutan, located inside the cable car top station, offers a wide range of food, drinks and pastries. It’s easy to ski in from the gondola and out again and there’s something on offer for everyone.

Carins Krog is located next to SkidCenter Björnen in Björnen. They’ve got something for everyone and offer a great atmosphere. A tip is to order pizza for dinner and bring it home after a day of skiing.

Crowded House tältkåta is located at the top where the Hermelin-, Björnen and Vargen slopes meet in Björnen. Enjoy good food and service in this atmospheric tipi.

Lilla Tyrolen offers wholesome food with a typical Swedish touch, served along with an amazing, and for most, different view of Åreskutan. Lilla Tyrolen is located by Järvenliften in Björnen. Ski in, eat, ski out.

Mr Bramwells Wigwam offers lunch and fika for the whole family. You’ll find Mr Bramwell’s by the Tegeliften mountain station in Tegefjäll so you can just ski in and sit down with a good burger.

Svartberget café och restaurangAll food on the menu is made from scratch. The menu is inspired by North America but sports a taste of typical flavors from the region.

TimmerstuganPasta, soup, omelette, fish & fries, steak tartare…you get the idea. Timmerstugan is located just above the Åre Kabinbana/VM6:an valley station.

ÅrehyddanÅrehyddan offers a typical assortment of food made for skiers, such as gulasch, burgers and schnitzels. Ski or walk to Årehyddan which is located in Stjärnbacken.

Tips: Eat while queuing!

If you find yourself in line, waiting to get on VM8:an you can park your skis, snowboard, or whatever equipment you might be sporting, and grab something to eat at Kaffebaren. The neat thing is, if you park your equipment in their ski rack, you can order, eat and then get back in the line without missing your place in the queue! You just go back in line at the same spot where you got out.

Lunch Places Outside Åre

Backrestaurang Ripan Trillevallen
At Trillevallen you can ski downhill or enjoy a great scenery from the cross-country trails. Ripan offers an assortment of balanced lunches for hungry skiers.

Bergstugan Fröå
Grab a pair of cross-country skis and make your way to Fröå via Björnen XC Center. It is well worth the trip and don’t miss the waffles.

Köjagården Edsåsdalen
Edsåsdalen is skiing area close to Åre and Köjagården is located in the center of the village. The lunch consists of a variety of salads, soups and other hot meals.

Vita Renen Edsåsdalen
Getting here requires some effort but it is worth it. Make sure to check their social media channels for updated opening hours before setting off.

Vålådalens fjällstation Vålådalen
Vålådalen is a ski touring area located to the east of Åre. In the winter a lunch buffet and waffle buffet on offer as well as lunch packages if you wish to bring your lunch with you.

Lunch Places in Åre by (Åre town)

Located just above Åre torg, next to Bergbanan. Broken have large plates of American inspired food such as hamburgers and Baby Back Ribs on their menu. You won’t leave hungry.

Walk or drive along Årevägen towards the Swedish National Alpine Arena. You’ll see the signs to your right. The food is inspired by the Mediterranean culture and is served in an easy-going atmosphere.

Kura Krogen
Located in the old health resort centre, Kura serves healthy and yummy vegetarian food with vegan friendly alternatives (and delicious pastry).

Lounge is located inside the Station House (Stationshuset) in central Åre. There’s a great variety of dishes to chose from, from poké bowls to pizza.

Max Hamburgerrestaurang
You’ll find the children’s favorite fast food restaurant at Åre torg. This Swedish fast food restaurant offers many vegetarian alternatives and have other things than hamburgers on the menu.

Mister French
Enjoy a long lunch with friends or family in a great atmosphere at Åre torg. The lunch menu is a bit different from the evening menu and you can chose between everything from goat cheese salads to steaks.

Werséns brasseri och bar
This has become a bit of an institution in Åre. You’ll find Werséns at Åre torg and you can chose from a large and different pizza menu or go for something more traditional.

Åre Bageri
This bakery in Produkthuset offers more than absolutely delicious bread in all shapes and forms. You can also eat your lunch here – enjoy the atmosphere and high-quality food.

Åre Crêperie
Åre Crêperie is located in the old fire station which has been refurbished with great care. Their galettes come in a great variety of flavors and different toppings and the crêpes are amazing.

Åre kafferosteri
This award-winning coffee roastery also have food on the menu. Their sourdough bread is delicious and you might experience new, or at least different, types of flavor here.

Åre ölkafé
Swedish husmanskost (traditional Swedish food) at its finest served in a French style interior in the old, refurbished, train station. The meatballs might be the best in Sweden.

A Lighter Option

Sitting down at lunch places and mountain restaurants is not for everyone. For those who don’t think they have the time, or want to, sit down for a long lunch, there are options.

Kaffebaren VM8:an is located next to VM8:an’s valley station. Offers lighter options for lunch or for just grabbing a snack.

Ski in – Korv out /Scan Korv & Carve You find these ”kiosks” at Rödkullen, Sadelexpressen and Valletorget in Björnen. Grab a hot dog and be on your way.
