Enjoy trail running with a view in Åre. Here are five favourite trails that’ll give you beautiful mountain terrain and fantastic views to enjoy between every breath. Raise your gaze and save these views to your memory vault or take a picture and send it to someone at home.
Totthummeln around & up
ELEVATION 420 m | DISTANCE 5,8 km
The locals’ favourite route, complete with stunning views at the top. If you’re used to running hills and mountains, you might finish this route before breakfast, but many of us alternate running with brisk hiking on the steepest sections. No matter how quickly you reach the top, the same beautiful views await you. The trail is steepest as it winds through leafy mountain birch terrain, before flattening out slightly as you approach the summit. After taking in the view, your reward awaits – a fun downhill run along Solstigen, leading you back into the village of Åre!

Platåleden
DISTANCE 6,3 km
This is a relatively easy trail for those who want a bit of everything on their run. It begins on a footpath before ascending towards Platåkåtan. Continue for a few kilometres through the mountain birch forest until the entire Ottsjö plateau opens up in front of you. Wooden planks guide you across the marsh – just keep your balance and stay focused. After the marsh, make a detour towards Kläpphögarna for stunning views of Lake Ottsjön and Ottfjället.

Välliste
ELEVATION 515 m | DISTANCE 3,5 km
Välliste is the name of the mountain in Trillevallen, offering a short but rewarding challenge that can easily be extended by running additional trails in the area. The trail starts with an uphill stretch along the gravel road that follows the ski lift, but soon turns into a winding path. Before long, you’ll find yourself at the summit, taking in views of Sylarna to the west and the Anaris massif to the south.

Middagsvalen
ELEVATION 332 m | DISTANCE 5,3 km
The trail to Middagsvalen is short but eventful. You’ll have time to warm up during the first kilometre from the trail centre in Vallbo, before the climb begins and soon turns very steep. Take in the view at the top — you’ve certainly earned it. You can either follow the same trail back or run the circular route, which is also marked but tends to be a bit wetter.

Vertical K at Åreskutan
ELEVATION 1000 m | DISTANCE 5,6 km
If you’re looking for the maximum elevation gain in the shortest possible distance, Vertical K is the route for you. Start at the Central Square, where you’ll find a timing station to record your performance. If you’re more in it for the experience, be sure to stop now and then and look over your shoulder – Åre valley soon reveals one of its finest trail running views!

Lillådammen
ELEVATION 78 m | DISTANCE 7 km
The trail to Lillådammen starts at Fröå Gruva (an old copper mine), with a lovely wide path that’s perfect for warming up. The trail climbs gently, and just above the tree line you’re rewarded with a stunning view of the back of Mt Åreskutan. Lillskutan
ELEVATION 560 m | DISTANCE 11 km
The trail around Lillskutan offers varied terrain, with paths winding through beautiful spruce forests and limestone mountains. You’ll run through an untouched landscape where shaded snow often lingers, slowly melting after the winter. Mountain streams form pools beneath your feet, so depending on recent weather, the ground may be a little wet. Take the VM6 lift and the Hummel lift to the starting point to save your legs and skip a few extra metres of elevation!

Västra leden till Åreskutans topp
ELEVATION 1000 m | DISTANCE 7,6 km
Here’s a challenge where you run all the way up to the summit of Åreskutan, with a mix of wider trails and several technical sections. From Mörvikshummeln up to the top of Åreskutan, you’ll be running through open mountain terrain, having left the mountain birch forest behind. This section follows the same route as the Vertical K trail, offering fantastic views all around. Treat yourself by taking the cable car down and enjoy a bird’s-eye view of the entire route you’ve just conquered.
