New Year's in Åre
Out with the old – in with the new. New Year’s in Åre is the perfect mix of outdoor winter fun and festive indulgence. Restaurants serve up delicious New Year’s menus, and bars and clubs pull out all the stops. How you choose to ring in the New Year is entirely up to you – but we’ve gathered a few tips that might just tickle your fancy.
One Important Thing
Lighting fire crackers and fireworks are prohibited in Åre village, within the area stretching from Kallströmsväg to Frönäsudden, from Åre Strand to Fjällgården, unless you have a permit from the police authorities.
A New Year's Feast
Restaurants and eateries in and near Åre village offer special New Year’s menus that will make your mouth water. If you wish to escape the centre of Åre, Buustamons Fjällgård is one alternative, where the evening starts with a band wagon, bubbles and snacks. The turn of the year is celebrated outside with music and more bubbly drinks. Årehyddan offers a first-class New Year’s supper with a view of Stjärnbacken, combined with live music. At Åre Granen, the celebrations start at lunch time with luxurious á la carte and is followed by a full New Year’s menu in the evening. There will be more celebrations and great offers available but remember: Book in good time!
Celebrate Outdoors
Start the day on the slopes or on the cross-country and ski touring trails for a full New Year’s experience. This is traditionally a cold and crispy day so make sure to dress accordingly while you enjoy getting your cheeks bit and see the sun reflected in the snow crystals. And if you don’t wish to strap on a pair of skis, there are plenty of other activities that will let you enjoy the outdoors.
Let Your Hair Down
A proper party is often part and parcel of New Year’s Eve – and if you’d rather skip hosting your own, there are of course plenty of options in Åre village. The biggest New Year’s celebrations in the area take place at the classic nightspots Verandan and Bygget, promising big crowds and music fit to welcome the new year in style. You’ll find events and activities all through December and New Year’s – right up until the end of the school holidays – in the calendar below!
