Åre in August

On two wheels, in water, up on top, in nature, in the sauna, with white sheets or sleeping pads. August is here and offers a wider variety of great experiences. We’ve listed some of our top picks for August here and if that’s not enough, go explore our Activity Calendar below. Welcome to enjoyable late summer endulgence in Åre.

Challenge Yourself
Put both your body and mind to the test during Fjällmaraton Week 25th of July to 1st of August, where you can pick from a range of distances, whether it’s the brisk 8-kilometre race or a full-on ultramarathon—tailored perfectly to your mood and fitness. If you’re looking to slow things down along the way, Fjällmaraton Gastronomy offers a different kind of mountain experience. The same fjäll—just at a different pace. Here, you move through the day with flavors as your companion, with food and drink served along the trail as the views open up around you. The distances, 24 or 42 kilometers, follow well-marked paths, and the open start time allows the experience to take its place. Many choose to start early, letting each step become more pauses, more moments to breathe.

Support Wheels Off
We’ve said it before—and it’s still true: the bike season in Åre just keeps getting longer. In 2026, select lifts will keep spinning every day throughout August. More than 50 kilometers of trails are waiting—winding through forest, rolling over roots, and leading to views that make you pause longer than planned. Åre Bike Park is a natural highlight, but it’s far from the whole story. You’ll also find gravel roads that drift off into quiet corners, trails that push back, and scenic road routes that open up the mountains in a whole new way. Try gravel or trails—or go for a road ride.
No bike of your own? No problem. Local rental shops throughout the village know their stuff and will help you find the perfect ride for the day. Many also offer guided tours and lessons.
Pick your Favourite
We’re not all master chefs — some of us simply love eating more than cooking. But even the most kitchen-shy can’t resist the simple joy of preparing something hand-picked from nature’s own pantry. August is the perfect time to head out foraging. Wild raspberries, blueberries, and cloudberries are ripe for the picking, and in the forests you’ll find chanterelles, boletes, milk-caps and more — if you know where to look and which ones to bring home. Just remember: forage responsibly. Leave roots undisturbed so others can enjoy nature’s bounty too, and always double-check which mushrooms are safe to eat before tossing them into your stew. Breathe Deep, Look Far
There’s something wonderfully restorative about the great outdoors — and in Åre, you’re spoilt for choice. Leave the noise behind and let the mountains work their magic. Wander through silent forests, pause to admire wildflower meadows, and climb to panoramic viewpoints where the world seems to stretch endlessly in every direction. Hop aboard the cable car to Åreskutan’s summit at 1,420 metres for sweeping 360-degree vistas. Or lace up your boots and tackle Välliste, where distant giants rise on the horizon. Ottfjället, Mullfjället, Renfjället and Totthummeln each offer their own unique rewards — and no two views are ever quite the same. In Åre, every summit is an invitation to slow down, breathe deeply, and simply take it all in.
Be a Bon Vivant
What a weekend of indulgence looks like is entirely up to you. But if it’s about relaxing, sleeping in, and taking life as it comes, these tips might be for you: Sleep late and enjoy a leisurely breakfast at the hotel or a café or restaurant. | Hike to Buustamon for a package deal including lunch and relax/sauna and outdoor baths. | Join a yoga class, indoors or outdoors | Go on an excursion to places like Ristafallet or Tännforsen, or both. | Walk, jog, or amble along Åre beach and dip your toes—or even take a full plunge—in Åresjön, perhaps from the shore or the marina. | Choose your favourite dining spot and round off your day with a relaxed “after-whatever” in a comfy armchair at the hotel bar. | Sleep. Start over.

A handy tip is to practise pitching your temporary canvas home before heading out to avoid frustration and explitives just before it’s time to sleep. And if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask your local outdoor shop. Sleep well and wake refreshed!
