Åre in August

On two wheels, in water, up on top, in nature, in the sauna, with white sheets or sleeping pads…August is here and offers a wider variety of great experiences. We’ve listed some of our top picks for August here and if that’s not enough, go explore our Activity Calendar below. Welcome to enjoyable late summer endulgence in Åre.

Challenge Yourself

Put both your body and mind to the test during Fjällmaraton Week, where you can pick from a range of distances, whether it’s the brisk 8-kilometre race or a full-on ultramarathon—tailored perfectly to your mood and fitness. As the nights grow darker later in the month, immerse yourself in the enchanting Fjällmaraton Night. The race kicks off at 4 a.m., and after 34 kilometres, a well-earned breakfast buffet awaits as your reward. If that’s not enough, join in Åredalen Inclines – a running series that takes you up our beautiful mountains. Participate in one race or all four. And if running’s not your cup of tea, how about a parkour camp (see below)? There are alternatives for kids as well as adults.

Support Wheels Off

There’s never been a better time to experience Åre by bike. In 2025, Åre Bike Park is set to offer its longest season yet, with lifts running daily throughout August — giving you full access to over 50 kilometres of thrilling trails high up in the stunning mountain scenery. But Åre is more than just the Bike Park. From smooth gravel routes and winding forest trails to scenic road cycling, there’s a ride here for every taste and skill level. Whether you’re chasing adrenaline or simply want to cruise and soak up the views, Åre delivers unforgettable cycling moments. No bike? No problem. Local rental shops have everything you need, and many also offer guided tours and courses to help you discover the very best of Åre on two wheels.

Allemansrätten, vad man får och inte

Pick your Favourite

We’re not all master chefs — some of us simply love eating more than cooking. But even the most kitchen-shy can’t resist the simple joy of preparing something hand-picked from nature’s own pantry. August is the perfect time to head out foraging. Wild raspberries, blueberries, and cloudberries are ripe for the picking, and in the forests you’ll find chanterelles, boletes, milk-caps and more — if you know where to look and which ones to bring home. Just remember: forage responsibly. Leave roots undisturbed so others can enjoy nature’s bounty too, and always double-check which mushrooms are safe to eat before tossing them into your stew. Breathe Deep, Look Far

There’s something wonderfully restorative about the great outdoors — and in Åre, you’re spoilt for choice. Leave the noise behind and let the mountains work their magic. Wander through silent forests, pause to admire wildflower meadows, and climb to panoramic viewpoints where the world seems to stretch endlessly in every direction. Hop aboard the cable car to Åreskutan’s summit at 1,420 metres for sweeping 360-degree vistas. Or lace up your boots and tackle Välliste, where distant giants rise on the horizon. Ottfjället, Mullfjället, Renfjället and Totthummeln each offer their own unique rewards — and no two views are ever quite the same. In Åre, every summit is an invitation to slow down, breathe deeply, and simply take it all in.

Frukost på Holiday Club Åre

Be a Bon Vivant

What a weekend of indulgence looks like is entirely up to you. But if it’s about relaxing, sleeping in, and taking life as it comes, these tips might be for you: Sleep late and enjoy a leisurely breakfast at the hotel or a café or restaurant. | Hike to Buustamon for a package deal including lunch and relax/sauna and outdoor baths. | Join a yoga class, indoors or outdoors | Go on an excursion to places like Ristafallet or Tännforsen, or both. | Walk, jog, or amble along Åre beach and dip your toes—or even take a full plunge—in Åresjön, perhaps from the shore or the marina. | Choose your favourite dining spot and round off your day with a relaxed “after-whatever” in a comfy armchair at the hotel bar. | Sleep. Start over.

Treat Yourself – or Someone Else

Explore the wide variety of shops (many of them ar unique) throughout the Åre valley, each offering something unique. Take a trip to Duved and enjoy a leisurely stroll around the village while exploring the assortment of shops. Start from Åre Square and wander down every street you can find (not all shops are located at Åre Square) – you’re bound to discover something new. Dive into the selection of outdoor and clothing stores, equipment, second-hand treasures, home décor, and more. Explore Undersåker. A handy tip is to park by the railway station and take a pleasant walk up to Åre Light Factory. Treat yourself to a proper shopping spree, or find something special to make someone else’s day.

Mix Business with Pleasure

They say you’re never too old to learn something new—so why not combine a bit of learning with fun, buzz, and days out? A great tip is to visit Buustamon Distillery and get to know their tasty drinks alongside a delicious three-course meal. Or try a painting class with Eva and Tyra Aggerborg, maybe with a glass (or two) of cava in hand. Another idea is to learn fly fishing with Fjällsport.

These are just a few picks from what’s on offer. Take a look at the calendar below for plenty more fun ideas!

Ditch the Sheets, Embrace the Peaks

White, crisp sheets are delightful, but waking up on the mountain to birdsong and watching the sun rise over the peaks is simply unbeatable. Choose a hiking spot you like, pitch your tent by a stream, and see for yourself. If you don’t own a tent—or know someone who does—you can rent one from places like Outdoor Buddies. A handy tip is to practise pitching your temporary canvas home before heading out to avoid frustration and explitives just before it’s time to sleep. And if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask your local outdoor shop. Sleep well and wake refreshed!

Åre Sportcenter

Get Your Swing On

Golf, padel, tennis, pickleball… whatever your game, smashing that ball is always a blast! At Åre Sport Centre (Åre sportcenter), you can spend the day challenging your mates or family to a friendly tournament on the padel or tennis courts—or tee off in the golf simulator. Or just have a cheeky practice session on your own to perfect that swing. Fancy some fresh air? There’s a cracking golf course just a few miles west waiting for you to tee off. If you’re looking for a quieter challenge, visit Åre Climbing Centre (Åre klätterhall) at Åre Sportcenter while you’re on site.

Boots On and Hats High

Summer 2025 is set to fill Åre and the surrounding area with music of every kind, and on 8th and 9th August, it’s time to dust off those boots and don your best hat. Duved Country has grown from a one-day bash into a full-on two-day festival, serving up top-notch country and bluegrass beats that’ll keep the party going well into the late summer nights. One of the days is all about family fun, with plenty of exciting activities for the youngest cowboys and cowgirls to enjoy. For those who cannot get enough of music and gatherings: Undersåker’s village festival on August 30 is a hot tip!
