Across Åredalen and the surrounding area, restaurants are busy preparing and setting their festive tables well in advance, with great care and love for local ingredients and seasonal menus. You can look forward to hand-tied sausages, homemade mulled wine, classic Christmas flavours, exciting new dishes, and plenty of local delicacies. When it’s time to ring in the New Year, there are plenty of wonderful restaurants in Åre where you can celebrate in style. What is a Julbord?
A Julbord (direct translation: Christmas Table) is a Scandinavian tradition. It is a feast where traditional Christmas food and beverages are served. Traditionally, it’s served as a buffet where tables are laden with plenty of heavy food such as ham, sausages, salty fish, root vegetables, and so on. Today, the format is the same but the types of food vary and there’s more to choose from. However, some dishes remain such as pickled herring, Swedish meatballs and the ever-present cooked ham. The Julbord is often a lively event and are suitable for families and colleagues alike.

Bergstugan in Fröå
Fröå Mine has a long tradition of artisanal food, and Bergstugan proudly continues that heritage. Here, you can enjoy a traditional Christmas buffet, with everything made from scratch using high-quality, locally sourced ingredients. The pigs are even butchered on-site by Bergstugan, the elk comes from nearby forests, and the fish is caught in local waters. They also offer Christmas and New Year’s hampers to take home and enjoy.

Buustamons Fjällgård
Kvällen börjar med en kort bandvagnstur från Buustamons parkering upp på fjället. Buustamons Traditionella Julbord består av det godaste goda och finaste fina, hemlagade delikatesser samt ett bra urval av lokalproducerat från Jämtland.

Karolinen Täljstenskrog
At the classic Karolinen, guests are treated to a served Christmas dinner featuring a traditional herring platter, a Christmas-inspired main course grilled on a soapstone, mulled wine, and a festive dessert. A special menu for children is also available.

Werséns
Wersén serves its traditional Christmas buffet in the cosy, decorated Källaren every Thursday and Friday until Christmas. It’s the perfect opportunity to gather your colleagues, friends, or family and enjoy an early festive atmosphere. Limited seating available.

Åre Fjällsätra
The historic Åre Fjällsätra in Undersåker offers several Christmas buffet sittings, serving well-prepared dishes in a cosy mountain setting. The tables are laden with classic Christmas flavours made from high-quality, local ingredients, alongside exciting and creative interpretations and combinations.

Årehyddan
Årehyddan offers a traditional Christmas buffet with a cosy, “at-home” atmosphere. On Christmas Eve, Father Christmas will also make an appearance to hand out presents to the children. After dinner, everyone is welcome to stay and enjoy a relaxed Christmas Eve with sweets and other festive treats.

New Year’s Dinner
Boqueria
At Boqueria, you’ll get a taste of the Mediterranean tapas concept with a touch of the Swedish mountains. On New Year’s Eve, a set menu is served and you can book a table or a seat at the bar.

Karolinen Täljkrog
Enjoy a classic New Year’s supper with a three-course menu, starting with sparkling wine and oysters by the fire on arrival. The menu includes:

Mr French
Celebrate the New Year at Åre Square. Mr French will serve you a first-class new year’s dinner and later the restaurant turns into a club with double dance floors where you can dance in the new year until three in the morning.
If you want the food without the bother of preparing it, and stay at home, you can order a New Year’s hamper full of tasty dishes.

Skier’s Hütte
Book a complete alpine experience on the mountain at Skiers Hütte. Inside the hut, you can enjoy cheese fondue, raclette and wine in a cosy setting that brings Switzerland to mind. Bookings are available every day, year-round, except on Christmas Eve.

Werséns
At Brasseriet, an à la carte menu is served alongside a selection of extra dishes designed to give that luxurious New Year’s feel. You can create your own menu or choose a ready-made three-course option. In the bar, the celebration continues until 3:00 AM with a DJ, sparkling wine, and cocktails for everyone aged 20 and over. Free entry! After-dinner drinks are available, but guests with table reservations have priority. In Källaren, a three-course menu is served, featuring a classic soapstone-grilled main course. A 20+ age limit applies after 9:00 PM, regardless of accompanying adults.

New Year’s Eve at Årehyddan has become a cherished tradition. Enjoy a top-class New Year’s dinner with good friends while taking in the views over Sjärnbacken — the perfect way to close the year.
