Autumn Break Tips

There’s a new adventure just waiting to be had around every corner, indoors and out, for kids of all ages. Apart from the Autumn Break Programme activities there are plenty of big and small adventures and activities to go for, with your friends or the whole family. Find out what’s happening day by day in our calendar and find larger events here

Snow!

There’s no guarantee, but October often brings the first snowfall of the season. Pack your beanie, mittens, warm layers and sturdy footwear so you’re ready for snowy adventures up high – whether it’s a proper snowball fight, a sledging session or making snow angels.

Don’t Touch the Ground!

Next to the Holiday Club, you’ll find an obstacle course with a “don’t touch the ground” theme – fun for all ages. It’s a great family challenge, and if you fancy a proper workout, there’s an outdoor gym right beside it.

Dine Alfresco

At the Wilderness Camp, the firewood is stacked, and the campfires burn all day long. Bring your own packed lunch or cook burgers, sausages, chocolate bananas or cinnamon apples over the open flames. Prefer your own quiet spot? You’ll find barbecue areas along Åre’s beach promenade, at the marina and in Björnen. Looking for outdoor cooking inspo? Check out these recipe tips.

Chase the Northern Lights

With dark, crisp nights in October, you might just spot the magical Northern Lights. Keep an eye on local forecasts or book a guided tour for the best chance of catching the aurora in action. Find more tips on how to spot the Northern Lights here.

Visit a Waterfall

Fans of Ronja the Robber’s Daughter will love this – her waterfall, Glupafallet, is real and called Ristafallet. It’s an ideal day trip with trails for exploring the area. If size impresses you, Tännforsen – Sweden’s largest waterfall – is a must-see, along with other stunning falls around Åre.

Let Loose at JumpYard

Bounce on trampolines, conquer the Ninja Course, try the zipline or play Valo – JumpYard is full of energy and fun, whatever your age. Prefer a calmer but equally challenging activity? Head to Åre Climbing Hall in Duved for bouldering and rope climbing.

Game, Set, Match (and Lunch)

Åre Sportcenter isn’t just about climbing. Play padel, tennis or pickleball, work up a sweat in the gym, or practise your golf swing – then grab a bite at the café before the hunger kicks in.

Discover Glassblowing Artistry

Watch stunning glass creations come to life at Åre Glashytta in Duved’s station house. The furnace burns all day, and everything is handcrafted on site – perfect if you’re looking for a unique souvenir.

Early Cross-Country Skiing

In Vålådalen, trails are usually prepared daily throughout the autumn breaks using last season’s snow. You might even spot Sweden’s national cross-country team training! After your ski, enjoy a meal at the Mountain Station restaurant.

A Real-Life Chocolate Factory

Åre Chokladfabrik in Björnänge isn’t quite Willy Wonka’s – but it’s close! Treat yourself to handcrafted pralines and chocolate delights, all made on site. Don’t miss the nearby café while you’re there. Delicious.

High Ropes Adventure

In Björnen, SkiStar’s Climbing Park is an adrenaline-packed challenge for the whole family. Face your fear of heights, solve the courses, and have a blast up in the treetops.

Make Your Own Candles

At Åre Ljusfabrik (Åre Candle Factory), you can watch candle making in action – and try it yourself at select times. A cosy, hands-on experience in the heart of candle season.

Chill at the Library

Need a breather? Head to the Åre Station library, curl up with a book or two and enjoy a quiet moment alone or with a reading buddy.

Hot Chocolate – A Must

Whether it’s chilly or not, hot chocolate is always a good idea. All of Åre’s cafés offer their own twist – with whipped cream, marshmallows or both. Definitely not just for kids.
