December in Åre kicks off with the first weekend of Advent, and there’s something to look forward to almost every weekend until New Year’s Eve. This year, the holiday season gets an extra festive start, with an entire weekend of activities, special events, and great offers in the village shops. It’s the perfect time to get a head start on Christmas shopping, catch up with friends, and ease into the holiday spirit. In Åre Square, the Christmas tree, warm glögg, gingerbread cookies, and a festive concert set the mood for the weeks ahead.

And there are plenty more reasons to spend a December weekend in Åre. On Saturday, December 5, Åre Wine Festival returns, this year taking place at both Hotell Granen and Hotell Åregården. Wander between wine importers, explore new flavors, and perhaps find a new favorite. The Lucia weekend brings another highlight for skiers: Ski Test Weekend, when you can try out the latest ski gear and enjoy some of the season’s first turns on the slopes. In between, there’s plenty of time for crisp mountain air, cozy café stops, leisurely dinners, and the lively atmosphere of the village.

As Christmas approaches, it’s time to slow down, enjoy the outdoors, and spend time together before welcoming the New Year in the mountains. There’s simply so much to look forward to in Åre this December.
