The Fifth Season in Åre
Experience The Fifth Season in Åre — according to many, the very best one. The days grow longer, the temperatures turn pleasantly mild, the snow softens into creamy spring snow, and the sun gently melts winter away, drip by drip from the rooftops. This is when we finally linger over coffee in sunny snow pits, enjoy après-ski outdoors, carve purely for pleasure, and maybe sip a refreshing drink against a sun-warmed wall.
Alpine skiing at its finest
The Fifth Season is something truly special for alpine skiing in Åre. Days stretch out, evenings glow brighter, and the mountain is wrapped in a soft light that almost feels unreal. Mornings bring freshly groomed runs — perfect corduroy patiently waiting for that first turn. Skis hum, legs feel strong, and the mountain opens up with endless possibilities.
As the afternoon rolls in, everything shifts. The light turns golden, shadows lengthen, and the pace naturally slows. This is slush skiing at its best: relaxed, warm, and full of joy. There’s time to pause, take in the mountain views, and go for just one more lap — simply because the light is too beautiful to miss. You’re not skiing to rush anywhere, but to savor the moment. And when evening lingers on the mountain, it feels like the day never quite wants to end.
Time for outdoor drinks
When April arrives, life moves outdoors. Après-ski spills out onto patios and sun decks, both on the mountain and down in the village, and the vibe lifts another notch. Skis rest against the wall, boots are loosened, and tired legs finally get a break. Someone orders a cold drink, someone else sheds a layer or two. Music hums softly in the background, the sun warms your face, and suddenly time feels generous. It’s easy to stay — for the conversations, the laughter, and the feeling that the day still has more to give.
April patios have a special kind of pull. At Hummelstugan, you sit high above it all, gazing out over the village and mountains as the sun slowly brings you back to life after a day on the slopes. Down in the square, the energy continues at Mr French and Broken — music in the background, ski gear traded for sunshine on your face, laughter everywhere. And along a sunny wall at Crêperiet, many find their perfect post-ski spot: jackets come off, something delicious lands in the glass, and no one’s in a hurry to leave. It’s easy to linger. Easy to feel that The Fifth Season has truly arrived.
A high-energy season finale in the mountains
The final stretch of winter — The Fifth Season — brings events and an atmosphere all its own. After a long, cold season, many of us want to wrap things up on a high note. Some have been counting down for music, energy, and celebration — and find exactly that at Petter’s outdoor concert at Timmerstugan and during Åre Sessions, with shows both outdoors and indoors. Others get their The Fifth Season fix on the slopes: charging down Åreskutan in Red Bull Homerun or Skutskjutet, or skinning and skiing up and down the mountain during Trilleturen.
As you can tell, there’s something here for just about every taste. Choose what suits you best — or maybe mix a little of everything. The common thread is simple: enjoying this incredible season in the mountains.
Head out for a tour — and a sunny snow pit
Beyond the events and the buzz of the village and Åre’s slopes, quieter adventures await farther out on the mountain. Let your energy level and the weather decide the plan — maybe a ski tour to a scenic summit with a splitboard or randonnée setup, skating across the morning crust in Ullådalen, or a mellow-paced tour along one of the many beautiful trails in Södra Årefjällen.
But don’t forget the break. The kind that deserves time. Dig out a sunny snow pit, sink into the snow, and pull out your snacks and coffee. Tilt your face toward the sun and feel the warmth reach beneath your beanie. This is often where The Fifth Season lingers the longest — in the stillness, in the light, and in that unmistakable feeling that there’s nowhere else you’d rather be.
