Events in Åre

Åre is known for its events and is known for having many of them. After a period of not gathering crowds of people, we’re finally back to a time when the organizers are fully recharged and stoked to create new experiences for us again. This year offers an exciting mix of sports events, music, food and markets. Pick your personal favorite and join in to experience all the sprints, finish lines and clear concert nights we’ve been longing for.

In addition to the bigger events presented here you find a number of activities in the Åre event calendar.

2023

MAY

Workout Åre May 26 – 28

This out-of-the-ordinary training event has the ambition to be Sweden’s best meeting place for people with a great interest in the latest in training, health and wellness, and they usually manage to fulfill that with flying colors. The base for the event is at the Copperhill hotel, with the entire mountain right on the doorstep. JUNE

St Olavsloppet June 28 – July 1

Swedish/Norwegian running competition between the cities Östersund in Sweden and Trondheim in Norway, along the scenic pilgrim route St Olavsleden. A real folk festival with a new and beautiful route through the village Kall on the north side of the Åreskutan mountain. St. Olavsloppet >>

Åre Extreme Week June 28 – July 2

According to the organizers, Åre Extreme Week, ÅEW, is the ultimate arena for adventure, nature, music and good times where everyone can participate. During this summer week, the program is filled with competitions, workshops, lectures, happenings and events. You choose whether you want to challenge yourself or go in to crush all opposition. JULY

Fjällmaraton Öppet Fjäll July 1 – 2

Fjällmaraton Öppet Fjäll with distances of 25 or 43 km is aimed at those who want to experience the mountain marathon trails in a calmer pace, who want to have an experience-rich day on the mountain with good food & drink served along the spectacular trail that ends in the beautiful finish area in Ottsjö. News for 2023 is that a new food partner will be presented, and it seems to be something completely extra that has led to opening up the race for one more day when a large influx of registrations is expected. Åre Bike Festival July 5 – 9

The summer’s big cycling event in Åre made a strong comeback last year, and won’t aim for less for 2023. While the snow lies deep over bike paths and pump tracks, the program is growing behind the scenes, so stay tuned. Åre Bike Festival >>

Swedish Sailing Nationals in Tvåkrona July 7 – 8

Not since the 70s have there been any regular regattas sailed on Lake Åresjön, then Skiyachting was arranged with sailing in Laser dinghies in combination with giant slalom on skis. Now it’s time again when Swedish Sailing Nationals in Tvåkrona, a dinghy of just under 5 meters for crews of two people, comes to Åre. We hope for nice winds between the mountains! Swedeman Xtreme Triathlon July 8

Swim under Sweden’s largest waterfall, cycle 200 km through the Jämtland wilderness and run up to the finish line at the top of Mt. Åreskutan. Swedeman is part of the Xtreme Triathlon World Tour, so this track is not exactly a walk in the park. Swedeman >>

O-Ringen July 22 – 28

The world’s largest orienteering event lands in Åre in 2023, with competition arenas in several locations. Stages will be run in Trillevallen at the foot of Välliste, in Järpen 25 km east of Åre village and the last two stages will be run in Ånn, about 30 km west towards the Norwegian border. In central Åre, the O-Ringen village is being built, as the hub for all experiences. O-Ringen >>

Västgård Game Fair July 28 – 30

It’s time for visitors, exhibitors, lecturers, artists and more to come to Kall again this summer! The success is growing – Årefjällen’s game fair at Västgård in Kall. The fair’s focus is on rural and outdoor life with fishing, hunting, forestry, agriculture, dogs and horses. Västgård Game Fair >>

The Fjällmaraton week July 29 – August 5

A whole week filled with different running races in a spectacular mountain environment, from 8 to 100 km. Quarter Marathon, Half Marathon, Mini Marathon, Mountain Marathon and more. Some of the races you can choose yourself which day you want to compete. Everyone who finishes the shortest of the distances, Ottsjö 8K with start and finish at the Fjällmaraton centre in Ottsjö, has a chance to win a Kia car. Fjällmaraton >>

Järv Äventyr August 11 – 12

The competition in Åre is the most spectacular adventure competition and perhaps the toughest one among the races organized by Järv Äventyr around Sweden and Norway. Åre Höstmarknad (Autumn Market) September 29 – October 1

Åre Höstmarknad is a colourful family event where almost 150 exhibitors and producers together with visitors and villagers make this the Autumn’s big event in Jämtland. Autumn holiday in Åre October 28 – November 5

Celebrating autumn holidays in Åre is fun for all family members, big and small. The motto for the week is “time together” and we do our utmost to fill the whole village with activities and relaxation. The heart of autumn holidays is the cosy wilderness camp. DECEMBER

Åre Ski Test Weekend, December 8 – 10

January may be the beginning of the calendar year, but here in Åre it’s actually the Ski Test Weekend that kicks-off a new year. It’s the weekend that winter lovers look forward to throughout the autumn and which kicks-off the start of the ski season with a bang. EVERYTHING happens this weekend! The lifts start running, suppliers of this year’s winter gear are ready on the slopes, and everything can be tested before Christmas gift shopping. 2024

MARCH

Alpine World Cup, march 9 – 10

Åre receives its annual and traditional visit from the Alpine World Cup as the ladies run two races in the Alpine National Arena on March 10 and 11. It will be giant slalom one day and slalom the other. Come cheer and enjoy watching the world stars do their best on home soil. Of course, we hope that the 2022 Olympic medalist Sara Hector strikes at home and raises the mood both in the team and in the stands! World Cup Åre >>

All Mountain Masters, dates TBC

All Mountain Masters is a competition format for children and young people who love park and free skiing. There will be competitions in Freeride and Slopestyle for younger skiers, aged 7-16, with skis and snowboards on their feet. The weekend offers more than competitions, it will be an event for families with community feeling and experiences united in true free ride spirit. Behind the competition is Åre Slalomklubb Freestyle, where skiing profiles such as Henrik Windstedt, Sverre Liliequist and David Kantermo are coaches. All Mountain Masters >>
