At mountain resorts we are often active from early morning to late evening so it is important to keep the energy level up to get through the day. There’s a great selection of lunch places and slope restaurants in Åre and we dare claim that there’s something for every taste bud. Keep on reading to find some really nice places where you can enjoy your lunch, in Åre, on the slopes and at some gems located outside of Åre town.

Please note that you need to make a reservation at some of the restaurants and that their opening hours may vary according to season. 

In Åre by, Björnen, Duved & Tegefjäll

Buustamons fjällgård. Take the road towards Ullådalen and then tracked vehicle (booking required) or hike via trail 210/203. Buustamon has a great tradition and has hosted guests for generations. Great atmosphere and amazing food.

Copperhill is located at the top in Björnen and offers a great view of Åredalen. Just turn right in Björnen center and follow the winding road all the way to the top. Restaurant Niesti is located on the first floor.

Hotell Fjällgården Fjällgården is one of the oldest hotels and restaurants in Åre, located at the Fjällgårdsexpress valley station. Ski in, enjoy an assortment of great dishes such as bolognese or gulasch, and ski out.

Lillåstugan Ullådalen. Waffles in the Swedish way – this is a distinguished institution that’s been serving waffles for generations. Get there from Ullådalen’s parking lot via trail 203, or from Fjällvallsliften in Tegefjäll.

BaseCamp Åreskutan, located inside the cable car top station, offers a wide range of food, drinks and pastries. It’s easy to get there from the gondola and there’s something on offer for everyone.

Carins Krog is located next to SkidCenter Björnen in Björnen. They’ve got something for everyone and offer a great atmosphere. Eat in the restaurant or order takeaway.

Crowded House tältkåta is located at the top where the Hermelin-, Björnen and Vargen slopes meet in Björnen. Enjoy good food and service in this atmospheric tipi.

Skiers Hütte lies solo at the base of Lillskutan. Get there by hiking/biking or ask for transportation when booking (booking via email only).

Lunch places outside of Åre

Backrestaurang Ripan Trillevallen
Ripan offers an assortment of balanced lunches for hungry hikers and cyclists. Go via the E14 to Undersåker, go over the train tracks and across the bridge and make a turn towards Trillevallen. You’ll find the restaurant by the parking lot/lift station.

Bergstugan Fröå
Go via the Åre XC-center in Björnen or make your way along the old Fröåvägen. Bergstugan is located next to the old mine so make it an outing for the day and don’t miss the waffles.

Fjällsätra
Fjällsätra in Undersåker, offers a menu of lunch packages, a bar and dinners. It is well worth a visit, not just for the food but for the surroundings. Go via the E14 towards Östersund and make a right turn towards Undersåker. Fjällsätra is located along the road leading through the village.

Köjagården Edsåsdalen
Edsåsdalen is a skiing area close to Åre and Köjagården is located in the center of the village. Enjoy a good meal with a great view. Take the E14 towards Undersåker, go over the train tracks in Undersåker, make a right turn after the bridge and just follow the road.

Vita Renen Edsåsdalen
Getting here requires some effort but it is worth it. Make sure to check their social media channels for updated opening hours before setting out. Go via the E14 and Undersåker, over the train tracks and make a right turn after the bridge. Hike or bike to the restaurant.

Vålådalens fjällstation Vålådalen
The Vålådalen Nature reserve located to the east of Åre. In the winter a lunch buffet and waffle buffet on offer as well as lunch packages if you wish to bring your lunch with you. Take the E14 to Undersåker, cross the train tracks and the bridge and follow the signs.

Lunch Places in central Åre

Broken
Located just above Åre torg, next to Bergbanan. Broken have large plates of American inspired food such as hamburgers and Baby Back Ribs on their menu. You won’t leave hungry.

Grädda
Walk or drive along Årevägen towards the Swedish National Alpine Arena. You’ll see the signs to your right. The food is inspired by the Mediterranean culture and is served in an easy-going atmosphere.

Lounge
Lounge is located inside the Station House (Stationshuset) in central Åre. There’s a great variety of dishes to chose from, from poké bowls to pizza.

Max Hamburgerrestaurang
You’ll find the children’s favorite fast food restaurant at Åre torg. This Swedish fast food restaurant offers many vegetarian alternatives and have other things than hamburgers on the menu.

Mister French
Enjoy a long lunch with friends or family in a great atmosphere at Åre torg. The lunch menu is a bit different from the evening menu and you can chose between everything from goat cheese salads to steaks.

Werséns brasseri och bar
This has become a bit of an institution in Åre. You’ll find Werséns at Åre torg and you can chose from a large and different pizza menu or go for something more traditional.

Åre Bageri
This classical bakery and restaurant offers a slightly continental feel. The food and pastries are made on site so fill up on energy and round it off with something sweet.

Åre Crêperie
Åre Crêperie is located in the old fire station which has been refurbished with great care. Their galettes come in a great variety of flavors and different toppings and the crêpes are amazing.

Åre kafferosteri
This award-winning coffee roastery also have food on the menu. Their sourdough bread is delicious and you might experience new, or at least different, types of flavor here.

Åre ölkafé
Swedish husmanskost (traditional Swedish food) at its finest served in a French style interior in the old, refurbished, train station. The meatballs might be the best in Sweden.
