Riding uphill
– Low gears (experienced cyclists usually ride with higher gears).
– Sit down, it’s the most energy conserving.
If it’s super steep, move further forward on your saddle.
Riding downhill
– Look out to where the curve ends.
– Slow down before the curve so you can roll through it.
Flat terrain
– Lie close to the wheel of the cyclist in front of you.
– Change who pulls at regular intervals, it’s the hardest position in a cluster.
– Keep track of the cyclists around you when you’re in a group. Mark obstacles on the road by hitting your buttocks on the right or left.
Join a cycling club, then join their training. Åre Bergcyklister is the local bike club in Åre. Everyone there enjoys a new member and they’re all really welcoming. It’s a great place to find new friends to ride with on your level.

Style rules
It is totally forbidden to ride with a backpack. Get yourself a cycling jersey with pockets at the back to hold your phone and some energy. Forget ankle socks – when you are road cycling, high socks are by far the best. Gloves are a no–no when the sun is shining and for the love of Pete, don’t forget to strap your helmet on first, then put your sunglasses on over the outside of the straps. Last but not least, you obviously need clean–shaven legs to reduce wind resistance.
