Seize the moment
Enjoy trail running with a view in Åre. Here are five favourite trails that’ll give you beautiful mountain terrain and fantastic views to enjoy between every breath. Raise your gaze and save these views to your memory vault or take a picture and send it to someone at home.
Totthummeln around & up
Elevation: 420 m | Distance: 5,8 km
The locals’ favourite route with views at the top. If you are used to running hills and mountains, you’ll probably have this route finished before breakfast, but many of us will take turns running with a fast hike up the steepest sections. No matter how fast you get up, the same beautiful views awaits you. The trail is the steepest through the leafy mountain birch terrain, then it flattens out slightly as you approach the top. After the view, is the reward – a fun downhill run along the Solstigen towards the village in Åre again!

Platåleden
Distance: 6,3 km
This is a relatively easy trail for those wanting everything during their run. The trail starts with a footpath then ascents up to Platåkåtan. Keep on a few kilometres through the mountain birch before you have the entire Ottsjö plateau in front of you. There are wooden planks on the trail over the marsh and all you have to do is keep your head on straight and don’t lose your balance. Make a detour after the marsh towards Kläpphögarna for views of Lake Ottsjön and Ottfjället.

Vertical K at Åreskutan
Elevation: 1000 m | Distance: 5,6 km
If you’re looking for the maximum number of height meters in the shortest possible distance, you should choose Vertical K. Start at the Central Square, there is a station where you can time your performance. If you’re looking more for the experience, make sure to stop regularly to look over your shoulder; the valley of Åre soon offers its very best trail running view!

Lillådammen
Elevation: 78 m | Distance: 7 km
The trail towards Lillådammen starts at Fröå Gruva (an old copper mine) with a wonderful wide trail to warm up on. The trail runs slightly uphill, but just above the tree line you are rewarded with a powerful view towards the back of Mt. Åreskutan. On the way, back you can make a detour towards Byxtjärn for an alternative way home, but with an equally lovely downhill run.

Lillskutan
Elevation: 560 m | Distance: 11 km
The trail around Lillskutan offers varied terrain with paths that pass through beautiful spruce forests and calcareous mountains. Run through an undisturbed environment where you’ll often find shaded snow slowly thawing after the winter. The mountain streams are pooling under your feet, which means that depending on the previous weather, the ground can be a bit wet. Take the VM6:an lift and the Hummellift up to the start to spare your legs and skip some extra height meters!
